Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth Services
 
Southwest Florida Works through dedicated staff located at our centers promotes successful entry into a career pathway through education, workforce experiences and training that enlist business, community or vocational partners to ensure youth have the occupational skills required to succeed in the workplace.

The Southwest Florida H&M (Henkels and Mccoy) Youth Connections program is designed for transitioning high school students into the workforce by providing opportunities to learn essential skills they will need to succeed. The program teaches young adults competencies required to fill out job applications and interview.
  • Are you interested in finding your first job, trying or learning valuable workplace skills?
  • Do you want to learn how to prepare for a career?
  • Do you want  your General Equivalency Diploma (GED) to pursue higher education, or get a better job?
  • Do you need to learn about paying rent, balancing a checking account, or how to budget your money?

Southwest Florida Works offers an array of services to WIA eligible youth between the ages of 14-21.

Our In-School (ISY) youth program for high school students offers assistance with mentoring, tutoring, leadership development, internships and summer employment.  The program is available through invitation only due to federal legislation shifting the focus to services for out of school youth.

Our Out-of-School (OSY) youth program offers an array of services to young adults between the ages of 16-21.  Services are designed to help prepare you prepare for the first time job by providing you with work readiness skills that include resume writing; how to fill out a job application; interviewing techniques; learning about the demand occupations; job placement assistance, or  attaining a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) that open doors to employment and training opportunities.

Workforce professionals will guide you through the path to success providing opportunities to explore and learn and grow into a skilled and productive member of the workforce and your community.

To apply for services you must be a US citizen or resident authorized to work in the US; meet low-income guidelines; males 18-21 years of age must be registered with selective service and meet other applicable WIA eligibility criteria.
